“No eye is on the sparrow.”

May 6, 2006

Jonathan Yardley described Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking as “lacerating,” the best word he or anyone could have chosen. The lone review on Epinions calls the book essential for anyone in a life partnership, because “There will be a survivor,” which is exactly why I read it.

I have a new habit of planning, mostly early in the morning when I’m awake before the alarm clock, the course of action I’d take in response to various sadnesses, all the while hoping it’s precaution and not portent.

One Response to ““No eye is on the sparrow.””

i do that too. but not just various sadnesses. i’ll be driving down the road, and i’ll have an entire internal dialogue regarding how an oncoming car will cross the line, hit me head on, and the news will be broken to my family.

    all the damn time.
