O! Excited!
I read this when it first came out (3-ish?) years ago & re-read my copy when I heard about the movie coming out. But I lost track of the timeline of it all. (Yeah, okay, fine. Possibly related to 1.the frustrating & humorous fact of not being able to see a movie in theatres in 3-4 years.) Although! My phone message mentions a trisected man – I forgot I made it through 10 minutes of Some Crap He Liked, before having to use non-violent TCI moves on him! SCORE!
But also: 2. I was busy being excited about how beautifully, & largely true-to-plot, Neil Gaiman’s first “young adult” novel is being translated/produced. You most likely know this, but I don’t mean what looked like a REALLY iffy translation of “Stardust” ala Claire Danes (the graphic novel which set the stuffed suits of the Sci-Fi world ablaze with annoyance, by winning a couple of their most prominent LITerary awards, nyaah ha!) But, Gaiman’s book with a dash o’ McKean; (WHICH IS SOOO NOTHING LIKE NARNIA; GAAAH TO HORRIBLE P/REVIEW REFERENCES!) “Coraline.”
Re: “Mon Dieu, Despereaux!”: I’m torn about my feline obsessive bent, when seeing this preview. I generally support MORE CATS in everything from the White House to Willow/Tara love scenes in Buffy episodes. The book involves almost no cat, WAY more sneaksy rat, mouse learning to read when he should be eating [books], and excellent, unique humans not seen.
And yet – but still – regardless – take your pick of the lot: I know I’ll adore it. Even the literary obsessive in me is trumped, since at least a chunk of adorable AND plot translate well in a 2 minute space… Still: I hope the preview is praying on the many Cat Obsessives out there, aging most often 8, 28, and 88. <– “Things that make ya go…” As if it’s more preview than movie, I can muffle my squeees & ooooooaaawws, with all the more fullness of silliness!

&: i adore the book enough, (c’mon, much of it is centered around a bookworm-mouse-runt!! and the SOUP BOWL banishment, ohh hooo…) that i saw another, very different preview. it solved most of my bibliophile nerd concerns, so that now i can mostly think & say – well. um. – SQUEEE!
